To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Ayrshire Railway Preservation Group (ARPG), who manage and run the Doon Valley Railway, a special Gala Open Day is taking place on Sunday 29th September 2024 at Dunaskin.
Opening Times:
10:00am to 4.30pm
Free entry to the site - Please give a donation towards preserving our railway heritage.
Train Tickets:
Adults ( 16 years & over) - £8
Children (3-15 years)
Children (2 years & under) - FREE
Carer (1 carer per 1 paying customer and must show relevant ID) - FREE
ARPG Members - FREE
Train Departure Times:
1100, 1130, 1200, 1230, 1330, 1400, 1430, 1500, 1530, 1600.
Approximate journey time for each service is about 15 minutes.
Purchase of Tickets and Boarding passes are ONLY available from our Ticket Office on site.
Train Tickets and Boarding Passes can only be purchased from the Ticket Office which is located within the Gift Shop. Unfortunately we do not currently offer an online booking system. We accept cash and most debit and credit cards as payment.
Tickets for our Open Days include entry to the Doon Valley Railway site including free parking, Signal Box Cafe, Gift Shop, and a ride on our Directors Saloon Coach hauled by one of our steam or diesel heritage locomotives!
Tickets are for a specific train departure time. All trains depart from our platform at Dunaskin Station. This is located about a 5 minutes walk from the Ticket Office.

Members of Ayrshire Railway Preservation Group have the benefits of FREE entry and travel on general Open Days! Members must obtain their FREE ticket by booking online in advance, or on the day from the Ticket Office. They must carry their membership card and show it when requested. Not a member? Visitors and Members attending the Doon Valley Railway are advised that Steam and Diesel Locomotives, train services, attractions and facilities are subject to availability on the day.
The ARPG reserves the right to refuse access to, or remove from the train, station and site, any persons who are considered to be using inappropriate behaviour affecting the safety of the train and its passengers, spoiling the enjoyment of others or failing to comply with any reasonable requests made by a member of the train or station staff.
