We operate with steam and diesel locomotives at the Doon Valley Railway. Our mainstay of passenger operations is NCB No.10 and this is supported by our two operational diesel locos, Powfoot No.1 and the Sentinel.
We also have our unique operational Fireless steam locomotive, which we demonstrate several times throughout the year.
Built by Andrew Barclay, Sons & Co. in 1947 with works number 2244/1947. No.10 worked it's whole NCB career on the NCB system in the Doon Valley.
No.10 is Doon Valley Railways only operational steam locomotive.
Built by Andrew Barclay, Sons & Co. works number 347/1941. Built as part of a War Department (WD) contract during WW2, No.1 worked within munitions factories and spent most of it's time at Powfoot, near Annan.
No.1 is one of two operational diesel locomotives at Doon Valley Railway.
National Coal Board Opencast Executive (NCB OE) Sentinel works number 10012 of 1959.
This locomotive was the only diesel locomotive to work on the NCB system at Dunaskin, Waterside. 1 of 2 operational diesel locomotives at Doon Valley Railway, it’s powered by a reliable and noticeable Rolls-Royce engine.
Shell Refining Co. Number 8 built by Andrew Barclay, Sons & Co. in 1928, works number 1952.
This is the only operational fireless steam locomotive in the UK!
