Accessibility Guide

We are delighted to welcome all Visitors to the Doon Valley Railway, including those who are less able and any accompanying carer or assistance dog.

Some of our Volunteers have disabilities and with their experiences and advice, we hope that the information shown below will help those travelling with us:

Parking

Our Car Park has level access suitable for wheelchairs. There is one accessible parking space within the car park, subject to availability.

In order for us to assist those less able, we are more than happy to authorise Blue Badge holders through the inner gate, in order to park closer to the Main Buildings which includes; Gift Shop, Ticket Office, Cafe and toilets.

We are also able on request to allow Blue Badge holders to park in the vicinity of Dunaskin Station on request.

Toilets

Toilet facilities for disabled visitors are available in the Ticket Office and Gift Shop area, fully accessible for wheelchairs and mobility scooters.

A Baby and Toddler changing facility, along with Female and Gentlemen toilets are located within the Gift Shop and Ticket Office area.

There are NO toilet facilities at Dunaskin Station nor on our carraige.

Ground Type

The ground type between the Car Park leading to our Main Buildings where you’ll find our Gift Shop, Ticket Office and Signal Box Cafe is made up of compact gravel which is slightly rough but wheelchairs and accessibility scooters are able to pass over this ground.

Ground type from our Ticket Office leading to Dunaskin Station is a mixture of compact and loose gravel in places with a partly tarmac road. Wheelchairs and accessibility scooters are able to pass over this ground type.

Carer Tickets

One carer may travel free with a fare paying less able person. The carer must obtain a ticket from the ticket office on arrival at the railway, identification or written proof of the carer status must be provided in order to be eligible for free entry and travel eg

  • Personal Independence Payment (PIP) Document,
  • Disability Living Allowance Record Book,
  • Attendance Allowance Book,
  • Invalidity Benefit Book,
  • Visual Impairment Registration Card (BD8).

Carriage

Our Directors Saloon Carriage is not accessible by wheelchair or mobility scooter due to carriage door width.

We ask that individuals if able to leave their wheelchair or mobility scooter under the watchful eye of the platform staff and board the coach via the coach doors and make their way to an available seat.

The Guard of the coach is there to assist you, for your safety and assist your requirements so please ask for assistance if required.
