DVR Development Projects

The first project known as 'Project 1' is to raise funding for a 'New Rolling Stock Shed' which will be sufficient in size to store all our wagons, coaches and restored locomotives so that they can be on display to visitors. 

The Heritage Railway Vehicle Shed has already received match-funding support from the Coalfield Communities Landscape Partnership of up to £126,000 which ARPG has commenced this project. DVR need match funding and must raise approximately £80,000 for Project 1 by December 2024 in order to complete this project. 

The Heritage Railway Vehicle Shed will be the home to Doon Valley Railway's fleet of Rolling Stock, Locomotives and future railway stock that maybe received to preserve, protect, maintain and display to the general public. It will be an impressive showcase of heritage railway vehicles to present to the general public.

Project 2 is making the former Wagon Repair Shop into our new museum which will be the new home of our heritage items and narrow gauge railway. All donations currently being received are already being ring-fenced for this project and is achievable prior to re-opening to the public in 2024.

Intentions for this renovation is to lay a concrete floor within the building, lay the Narrow Gauge track to create a Narrow Gauge maintenance depot and create a public friendly environment throughout the Wagon Repair Shop Museum, allowing the public full access to this iconic building steeped in Dunaskin‘s history.

Once complete the Wagon Repair Shop Museum will allow further opportunities for volunteer vacancies to assist in telling the story of the Doon Valley heritage and it's railway network, also exciting opportunities for those that wish to maintain, preserve and operate the Narrow Gauge Railway!
