Volunteer with us

If you have an interest in all things trains and like getting your hands dirty then you can join the Engineering team. Engineers work on maintaining and restoring our locomotives and rolling stock. The team are also responsible for maintaining our permanent way (track).

Experience is not essential as we will provide training.

If you like interacting with the public then you can volunteer with us as part of the Front of House team. We need people to help out in our café, shop or museum where you will interact with the public and share the history of Doon Valley Railway and Dunaskin Ironworks.

Roles: cafe, shop, museum

Our railway can’t run without our Operational  team. Drivers and firemen are essential in operating the locomotives ensuring that the railway remains functional. The guards, coach operators and station team are essential for the passenger safety both on and off the train.

Roles: Drivers, fireman,  shunters, guards, Coach operators, station master 

Handy with a hammer, or got a green thumb then help out with the Site and Facilities team.  This team carries out all the ground keeping and gardening around the site.  They also carry out repairs to our many buildings.
